"Swanenburgh" Local Attractions
Our farm has a central position in a beautiful polder landscape with a view on the meadows in the vicinity of Edam, Volendam, Monnickendam, Purmerend, Alkmaar (20 km) and Amsterdam (20 km). All these cities have a rich history. Remnants of the rich VOC era can be found in the town centres and harbours. The harbours are mostly used for pleasure cruises. Much of the history can be viewed at museums or during open-air activities. Alkmaar and Edam still have traditional cheese markets.
You can take the steam train from Hoorn to Medemblik, visit the steam train museum and take the boat to the open-air museum (Zuiderzeemuseum) in Enkhuizen. The Zaanse Schans is another well-known open-air museum, no further than 20 kilometer from our apartments.
Amateur-fishermen can angle for fish in the direct neighbourhood of our farm, while walking or cycling through the fields filled with tulips can be an
experience just as dazzling. You can relax on our sunny terrace, with a view on our sheep, chickens, cats and dogs.
